"I lived in Kyoto, Japan for three years and there became obsessed with Japanese food and food culture. I learned that Feudal Lords of the Edo Period had food testers taste everything before it was consumed by the court. These inspectors used chopsticks made of sterling silver. Inspired by that idea, I thought it fitting to make my own chopsticks in sterling.

My Ajimi bashi take the shape of a spinal cord as a reminder of our mortality, hinting that we should make time to eat slowly and enjoy every bite of life supporting food.

The name means, 'tasting chopsticks' or the 'chopsticks for tasting' in Japanese.  In Japan, it is popular to carry chopsticks with you in order to avoid using disposable ones. I use my pair at every meal."
