ARTIST'S STATEMENT

the silence is the crack, and i am soothed by the cracks all around me, by that [negative] space, the glitch, the error, the page not found, the nothing + black. that is what i “paint”: those seemingly accidental sounds, spaces + moments…the distortion of context + matter; layers + layers of information seen + unseen... beyond the din of conditioned habits of perception, thought + speech. black as an undefined signifier, multi_coded metaphor + paradoxical koan of [absolute] nothingness…  gabriel j. shuldiner _ 2013

Gabriel J. Shuldiner’s jewelry work challenges the boundaries of art practice with luxuriously dark objects that are a direct extension of his materially rich art practice, or as he describes it “the body now replacing the wall, floor and ceiling.” Twisted, folded, bent, torched, ripped, raw and refined, Shuldiner’s one-of-a-kind accessories are based on a deep passion for experimentation and manipulation. The result:  a proprietary material/technique he calls Pbk_G: Post_Apocalyptic Black™. A primordially dark process birthing enigmatically layered objects that exude a powerful sense of spiritual elegance. Gabriel lives and works in Manhattan, New York.
