Nadav Benjamin is a New York City based artist as well as a fashion and celebrity portrait photographer. His current pentagonal works incorporate interpretive pixelated human forms and cosmic imagery appropriated from NASA. The Vertically oriented rectangles interlace highly detailed photography of earthbound materials with a compound approach to figural representation that is simultaneously photographic and painterly. From afar figures emerge from the patterns and vise versa, but as the viewer approaches the pattern-figure-plane breaks resolving the small grains that construct each mosaic.
In context of what he calls "the march towards a cosmology of complexity," Benjamin's intricate imagery strives to questions our ability differentiate between the culturally ingrained and free-will. As new discoveries spawn contestations concerning the nature of our existence and the transposition between the "real" and imagined these works position themselves as structures for myth-making.
All prints are in small editions of archival pigmented prints with a number of possible framing and mounting options.
